1. Privacy Is the Whole Point
PEA (“PEA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) exists to protect the privacy and safety of the people in our community. Privacy isn’t a feature we added after the fact — it’s the reason this platform was built. This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle, why we handle it, how we keep it safe, and the control that stays in your hands. One principle guides every decision we make: we gather only the minimum information needed to run PEA, and we never sell, rent, or hand your personal data to third parties for marketing or advertising.
Have a question about anything below? Reach us at privacy@pea.social.
2. What We Collect
We operate from a data-minimization mindset: nothing is collected unless it is genuinely required to run the platform, protect your account, or meet a legal duty.
What you give us directly
- Account details such as your chosen display name, email address, and a password (kept only as a salted hash — never as readable text)
- Anything you create or upload while using PEA’s features
- Messages you send us, including support and safety requests
What we record automatically
- The minimum technical signals needed for security and reliability — for example, sign-in times, error logs, and the IP address used when you authenticate
- We do not deploy advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or cross-site trackers of any kind.
What we deliberately leave alone
- We don’t gather information that has nothing to do with running PEA — such as your activity on other websites, your contacts, or your precise location — unless you deliberately switch on a feature that needs it, in which case we’ll tell you plainly beforehand.
3. How We Use It
The limited data we hold is used only to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve PEA’s core features
- Confirm your identity and keep your account protected
- Respond to your support and safety requests
- Satisfy legal obligations such as fraud prevention and tax rules
- Send essential account messages, like security alerts and password resets
We do not profile you for advertising, and we will not feed your personal data into general-purpose AI or machine-learning training without your separate, explicit consent.
4. How We Keep It Safe
We apply technical and organizational protections matched to how sensitive this information is:
- Protected in transit: everything moving between your device and PEA travels over TLS 1.2 or newer.
- Protected at rest: stored records and backups are encrypted with AES-256 or an equivalent industry standard.
- Least-privilege access: reaching production systems or member data is restricted to those who truly need it, logged, and reviewed on a regular schedule.
- Secrets kept out of sight: passwords, API keys, and tokens live in dedicated secret stores — never in plaintext files or source code.
- Ongoing hardening: we apply security patches promptly and routinely review our systems for weaknesses.
- Breach readiness: we maintain a plan to detect, contain, and — where the law requires — notify anyone affected by a security incident.
No platform can promise perfect security, but we are committed to strong safeguards and to being honest with you if something ever goes wrong.
5. When Data Is Shared
We don’t sell your personal data, and we don’t pass it to outside companies for their own marketing. The only exceptions are:
- Trusted infrastructure providers: a small, vetted set of vendors (for example, cloud hosting) that we rely on to keep PEA running. They may act only on our instructions and are contractually barred from using your data for any purpose of their own.
- Legal obligations: we may disclose information when compelled by law, a subpoena, or a court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of PEA and its members. Wherever we’re legally permitted to, we’ll notify you of such requests.
- Ownership changes: if PEA is ever merged, acquired, or has its assets sold, your data may transfer with it under these same protections, and we’ll give you notice in advance.
We will never release your data to advertisers or data brokers.
6. How Long We Keep It
Personal data stays only as long as it is needed to run PEA or to satisfy legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. Once it is no longer needed, we securely erase or anonymize it. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time (see Section 8).
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- See the personal data we hold about you
- Correct anything that is inaccurate
- Ask us to erase your data (the “right to be forgotten”)
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent for optional features whenever you choose
- Object to or limit certain kinds of processing
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@pea.social. We’ll respond within the period the law requires (for example, within 30 days under the GDPR or CCPA).
8. Deleting Your Account
You can close your account at any time from your account settings or by contacting support. When you do, we permanently remove your personal data from our active systems within 30 days, except where the law requires us to retain certain records longer.
9. Adults Only
PEA is an adults-only community intended solely for people who are 18 or older (or the age of majority where they live). The platform is not directed to minors, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly and close the associated account.
10. Data Across Borders
If your information ever crosses national borders, we put appropriate safeguards in place — such as Standard Contractual Clauses — so that it remains protected in line with this policy.
11. Updates to This Policy
As PEA grows, this policy may change. When a change is significant, we’ll let you know by email or through an in-app notice before it takes effect, and we’ll always post the revised policy with a fresh “Last Updated” date.
